Illustration: Gustaf Tenggren's Grimm's Fairy Tales

This post is just the tip of the iceberg... see The Top Ten Reasons To Support The A-HAA for more jaw dropping images from classic illustrated books.

TenggrenTenggrenThis is a real treat... an extremely rare 1923 edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales illustrated by Gustaf Tenggren. If you've been following the ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive Blog for a while, you'll remember our previous postings: Tenggren's Tell It Again Book Part One and Part Two, The Little Trapper, Small Fry and the Winged Horse, and Heidi, Wonderbook and Juan and Juanita.

Wonderful drawings and great colors. To bad that it is not clear which image belongs to what fairy tale. I recognize some of them, but not all.

Anyway, great posting! : )

Wow and Double Wow!!!!!! What a great post!!!!!! These Tenggren pictures are unbelievably wonderful! Why haven't I seen them before? What's the matter with the publishing companies? Why hasn't this stuff found its way into print?

Many thanks, Steve! Great post on Natwick too!

Big fan of Tennggren's work - I've seen a lot of these but not all of them. Thanks for posting them!

These are lovely, but many of them appear to be pale imitations of John Bauer's work, in some cases even copies of his designs, and not nearly as beautifully crafted.

Tenggren studied under Bauer. These illustrations were done just a few years after Bauer's death.
