Media: Alvin Show "The Whistler" Storyboard

John Watson, a reader in Texas, sent in some scans of amazing thumbnail boards from The Alvin Show to contribute to the archive database. "The Alvin Show" was one of the most innovative and consistently interesting animated television programs of the early sixties. It had everything... stylish design, clever timing, great music, fun stories, abstract sequences, witty dialogue and simple yet effective cartoony animation.
"The Whistler" was one of the funniest of the Chipmunk cartoons, and this preliminary thumbnail board shows that it was funny from the very start. A lot of great artists worked on this series... Leo Salkin, Alan Zaslove, Bob Kurtz, Jules Engel, and many others. It was produced by Format FIlms, a company formed by Herb Klynn, Jules Engel, and Buddy Getzler from ex-UPA artists.

In order to read these tiny thumbnail drawings, it's necessary to present them at a pretty high resolution. It might take a bit of work to navigate through the pages when they are so large. I hope you'll take the time to read this board all the way through, because it's well worth the effort.
Today, an artist stopped by from Cartoon Network to take a look at the storyboard exhibit. He made a point of letting me know that even when I don't get a lot of feedback in the comments, the artists at Cartoon Network are all talking about the posts and printing them out for their reference. It's nice to know that.

Great new addition!
I second that, I never post comments (probably by lack of anything relevant to add to your entries) but have your RSS feed in the top 10 of my list.
Keep up the good work! Wish I was in CA to give you a hand.
