Media: Virgil "Vip" Partch- Man The Beast
This post is just the tip of the iceberg... see reason number 2 on our The Top Ten Reasons To Support The A-HAA for links to more great posts about print cartoonists.
A couple of weeks ago, we featured a book by Virgil Partch called "Here We Go Again". Today, we digitized another of his books, "Man The Beast". The introduction states, "In this book Vip depicts man as the always eager predator, usually his own worst enemy... especially at sea, in bars and offices, on desert islands, etc." Published in 1953, this book finds Partch at his absolute peak. In particular note how masterfully Partch conveys perfect perspective with a minimum of visual clues. Also note the incredibly expressive body poses and experessions. Cartooning doesn't come much better than this.

We'll be back on Thursday, digitizing more great artwork for the archive.

Ah, yes, I remember! This is the man who did the Volkswagen Comic book back in the 50s and/or 60s. Great stuff!
Great! Let's have more!
