Media Huck Hound Builds A House
This post is just the tip of the iceberg... see reason number 3 on our The Top Ten Reasons To Support The A-HAA for links to more great posts about Golden Book illustrators.

We scanned another Golden Book today... Huckleberry Hound Builds A House. Published in 1959, this was one of the earliest Hanna Barbera books, and it's one of the best. The early H-B characters were beautifully designed and perfectly suited to the TV medium. This book was illustrated by Harvey Eisenberg and Al White.

If you found this to be useful, see also... I think I loved this book as a toddler!
What medium were used? Watercolor brush and airbrush? Any shading or texture by pencil?
This particular book is all gouache- opaque watercolor. It's a testament to the skills of the artists that they were able to achieve such a variety of textures with drybrush and sponge.
The painter who really excelled at textures was Mel Crawford. I'll scan and post one of his books next.
Thanks!
Steve
