Filmography: Tin Pan Alley Cats

Last month, we posted images from a very hard to see Bob Clampett Warner Bros cartoon called, Coal Black And De Sebben Dwarfs. John Kricfalusi donated a broadcast quality copy of this film, along with many other rare cartoons. One of the best of the bunch is Clampett's "Tin Pan Alley Cats".

This film utilizes a considerable amount of reused animation, primarily from Clampett's "Porky In Wackyland", but it adds so much more to the mix, the audience isn't cheated. The star of the cartoon is a cat caricature of Fats Waller, and also featured are caricatures of Adolph Hitler, Tojo and Stalin! If you would like to see this cartoon, it is available for viewing during office hours at the ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive in Burbank.

Thanks to John Kricfalusi for contributing this important film to our collection.

The archive will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. If you would like to volunteer on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, please email me at sworth@animationarchive.org.

Thank you

I don't suppose there is any way for ASIFA to create a DVD of the more important, memorable, restored, rarely seen cartons for distribution as a fund raising tool. I assume the matter of who owns the rights would be daunting plus the politically incorrect nature of most of the rarely seen stuff would discourage the owners from lending support.

When I first saw Tin Pan Alley Cats I thought it was the best cartoon ever. I wish I could live in wackyland with Hitler and stuff. You should watch it back-to-back with Ralph Bakshi's Streetfight. John K.'s awesome for doing this.
