Media: Tibor Gergely's Golden Books

Louis Zee and Marc Deckter were in today. Louis finished cataloguing the Terrytoons cartoons that Jerry Beck donated over the weekend. Milton Knight stopped by as well. He has volunteered to provide synopsises of the Terry cartoons for the database.

Marc fired up the scanner and worked out a system for scanning books. It was a bit of a trick to get the books to sit flat on the platen, but with a cleverly designed jig and a few weights, we were able to scan two vintage Golden Books without damaging the bindings. These were two of the earliest Golden Books, from the mid-1940s, and both were illustrated by one of the most famous of the Golden artists, Tibor Gergely. Gergely was born in Budapest, Hungary and came to the United States in 1940. We have several of his books on the stack to scan... The Seven Sneezes, The Taxi That Hurried and Tootle.

Here are some scans from the book we added to the archive today, Bobby And His Airplanes...

Next Tuesday, we will be backing up the Terrytoons and continuing scanning the Golden Books. If you are available to help out, come on down between 1pm and 9pm.
